It's time for portraits in the snow! The Win family, visiting from San Francisco, took time out from their vacation for a family portrait in the snow at Deer Valley. We have a few favorite locations for snow portraits, from our own gardens on the right snowfall day to our private property up Big Cottonwood Canyon, where die-hards can get waist deep in the white stuff.
The Madsen family chose perfect "earthy" toned clothing and added a nice splash of red.
NEW this year in the gardens, The Old Courtyard Wall Perfect clothing choices DawnAnn! It may feel odd to put on sweaters in summer, but it sure makes for a beautifully layered and textured portrait. The grey theme with a splash of plum was a stroke of genius.
The Bishoff family sees Maddy leave for her mission just as Tanner gets home. Glad they got a few days to see each other at least! We met up at 8 AM for this portrait session so we could get a crisp back-lit look on the group. We added a large softbox light from the right side to keep faces nice and bright and still maintain a natural look. I see a lot of photographers trying to use flash on camera for frontal fill light and it’s usually a bad idea, Kudos to the Bishoffs for choosing clothing that coordinates without getting to matchy. - Drake
